The Black Keys are an indie rock duo from Akron, Ohio. The band consists of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. While attending college, they realized they were not assured a job with a degree; causing them to drop out to seek a career in music. The duo began working on recording their first album using cheap recording equipment they found off of eBay, which ended up producing a lo-fi 60s vibe. Little did they know, but they created an authentic, signature sound. They released their first album, The Big Come Up, in 2002 under the record label, Alive. The album contained thirteen songs; of which eight were their own original tracks, and five were cover songs. These cover songs included covers of Muddy Waters, Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside. Their debut album attracted the attention of Fat Possum Records which provided them a new recording deal for future albums. The Black Keys are still creating music and hopefully they will release a new album in the near future. You can catch Patrick Carney on Sirius XMU when he hosts his weekly show, Sirius Boredom. On the show, Patrick plays music of which he has been listening; providing a window into his influences. Pressed on 180g vinyl, this record really radiates.
