Blitzen Trapper is an indie folk rock band from Portland. Blitzen Trapper self-released its first three albums, without a label. Wild Mountain Nation was the album which spurred the record label Sub Pop to take Blitzen Trapper under their wing. Pitchfork described the album stating, "Compared to their previous albums, Wild Mountain Nation has a newfound and audible confidence. It's the work of an assured band who can not only treat genre like so much fingerpaint, but brave enough to play it straight for a minute -- not as an empty exercise, but a chance to aspire ... Wild Mountain Nation is a revelation from beginning to end."

Furr was the first album released under the Sub Pop label in September of 2008 and was extremely well received.  Rolling Stone assigned the album four out of five stars and stated it was, "an engaging album full of rootsy beauty: gorgeous, wilderness-wandering ballads like 'Stolen Shoes & a Rifle' offer all the benefits of a great pastoral folk-rock record, but Blitzen also toss in ragged guitars, cheap keyboards and mildly weird psych rock on jams such as "Fire and Fast Bullets" Many of their tracks, such as "Blackwater Killer" and "Furr" tells a captivating western story. They then launched a very extensive tour to promote Furr, which included many festival appearences such as Bonaroo, Pitchfork Music Festival, Lollapalooza, and many others. The performance they put on was very energetic and lively, one of the best shows I saw during 2008. This album is an American classic which was inspired by classical America. By far the best Blitzen Trapper album.
